FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE BERKSHIRE AT PRESTON CENTER UNDERGOING $2.8 MILLION RENOVATION
January 9, 2013
Transwestern today announced that The Berkshire at Preston Center is undergoing a $2.8 million renovation. Built in 1984, The Berkshire is an iconic 185,000-square-foot, Class A office building located in Preston Center at the corner of Berkshire Lane and the Dallas North Tollway.
Currently underway at The Berkshire is the installation of a $1.3 million state-of-the-art elevator touch screen control panel system for its eight elevators. The new control panels not only operate the elevators, but they also provide access to news, weather, stock reports and live television. This is the second building in the nation to receive this type of elevator touch screen technology and the first in the Southwest. A ribbon cutting ceremony and champagne toast celebrated the opening of the first of the eight elevator cabs in 2012. The remaining cabs are expected to be completed in late spring of 2013.
A $1.5 million renovation is in process for the main lobby, exterior and garage. Renovation plans can be seen inside the building, with large renderings posted on the temporary walls. Staffelbach designed the concept, and Scott & Reid General Contractors is performing the improvements, which are scheduled to be completed later this year.
“The Berkshire has always been a top performer in the Preston Center submarket, and this renovation will ensure that it maintains that role for many years to come,” said Scott Walker, vice president at Transwestern. “Not only are the state-of-the-art elevator controls receiving rave reviews, but the other planned renovations are garnering excitement and energy in the market. The capital investment is part of our continued commitment to offer first-class products and service to our tenants.”
The Berkshire is ENERGY STAR® rated and LEED® certified and is currently 88 percent leased with approximately 49,534 rentable square feet available for lease.
Walker and Duane Henley of Transwestern exclusively lease the building on behalf of its owner, BPC Corp.
